TV chef James Martin shares hack to cook the perfect steak – and it’s so simple
When cooking steaks at home, it’s always difficult to recreate the standards we’re served up when we go out for dinner.
But rather than breaking the bank to buy the most expensive cuts of meat in a bid to match the experience, celebrity chef James Martin has shared a cheap and easy way to get the most flavour out of your steaks.
Some of us simply season it with salt and pepper, while others opt for peppercorn sauce, but James says there’s one ingredient that everybody should also be throwing into the pan.
On James Martin’s Saturday Morning, the chef told viewers the perfect way to finish off a steak is to sprinkle on a beef OXO cube to add a dusty and flavoursome coating to the meat.
It’s best to season the beef with salt and pepper about 20 minutes before you start cooking to allow them to sink in and keep the meat juicy, Daily Star reports.
Begin by melting butter in a pan, which can be flavoured with ingredients including garlic and rosemary to taste, and once the butter is foaming, add the steak to the pan.
Cook it for a couple of minutes before crumbling over the OXO cube to provide an even coating, and then put it back on the heat to cook to your own preference.
Let it rest while you plate up the sides and it’s good to go – with one home cook labelling the trick a “10/10”.
With beef OXO cubes costing under £1 for 12 in supermarkets, it’s a cheap way to get the most out of your humble steaks.
Now all you have to worry about is perfecting the medium-rare cooking technique.
